Stay+: “Young Luv”
[from Stay+ 7” / Double Denim]
The team behind Stay+ is still somewhat of a mystery to most people. Even ardent followers of the group’s every move have trouble keeping up with what exactly is going on with them. To make things even more difficult, the project began 2011 as Christian AIDS only to modify their name halfway through the year to the more user friendly Stay+ after the title of their first seven inch single. Since that time, they’ve become a fixture in the Manchester club scene and have remixed an absurd number of great artists.
“Young Luv” held court behind “Stay+” as the B-side to that first single and to me still remains the dominant number in their rapidly growing catalog of music. The on/off switch wind tunnel whooshing that has become one of Stay+’s signature tricks hits your ears with full force as the plaintive vocals inject pure emotion as they shift from left to right in tandem with the deep thud of the bass.
