Lil B: “Game”
[from I’m Gay / BasedWorld]
On my last count, there were 126 tracks by Lil B in my iTunes library, all of which were from a combination of records, mixtapes and one-off singles and remixes he released in 2011 alone. But just as was the case with Ryan Adams back in 2005, the music of Lil B often suffers from it’s creator being just a bit too prolific for his own good. While a great deal of the songs released this year are fantastic, there are just as many that make absolutely no sense or are downright inane.
Along with artists like Soulja Boy and Wiz Khalifa, Lil B found a way to harness the power of social media and gathered a massive cult following without having a record on the racks at Best Buy or having a close association with a larger, more well-known force in the world of hip-hop. His young legacy was built from the ground up and continues to grow with each and every word that he breathes. With I’m Gay, Lil B has crafted a fuller, more realized album than any of his previous efforts. Tracks like “Game” show that he’s already a force ahead of his time that hip-hop is just going to have to seriously deal with at some point.
