Song To Get You Through The Goddamn Day #109:
Y La Bamba: “Ponce Pilato”
In the time that I’ve lived in Portland, I’ve amassed a bountiful list of reasons why I absolutely love this ridiculous city that I call home. One such reason is the fine group of folks up there in the photo smiling back at you. Since I first saw Y La Bamba open for Ramona Falls in Seattle back in 2009, the group has expanded their size, opened up their sound and worked, worked, worked their fingers to the bone to become not just the best live act in the city but one of the most original and eclectic forces that currently exists in the landscape of modern music. I’d heard “Ponce Pilato” performed at enough shows in the past few years that finally hearing it put to tape made it feel as if I was reuniting with the dearest of old friends. Go listen to a stream of the new record. Go pre-order the new record. Go, go, go. Just support these lovely people in any way that you can.

Song To Get You Through The Goddamn Day #108:
Caves: “Eleven Twenty”
I realize that I just posted a Caves track a couple of weeks back, but upon hearing the lead track from the just released When You Were Partying, I Was Dying EP, there was nothing that was going to stop me from posting said track and STRONGLY encouraging you to head over to Absent Fever’s Bandcamp to grab your very own copy of the EP. Over the course of the four songs that make up the EP, Luka Cage, the mastermind behind Caves, travels down some pretty diverse and mature roads for someone his age. I have a good feeling that should all be prepared to hear a lot more about him in the coming years.
[The When You Were Partying, I Was Dying EP is out now on Absent Fever]

Song To Get You Through The Goddamn Day #107:
The Mynabirds: “Generals”
Ms. Burhenn has returned with a bonafide foot-stomper/barn-burner produced by the seemingly ever-present Richard Swift.
“Get your war paint on.”
Indeed.
[Generals drops June 5, 2012 on Saddle Creek]

Song To Get You Through The Goddamn Day #106:
Rhye: “Open”
The creatures behind Rhye are the latest purveyors of a recent trend of artists that have chosen to cloak their identities amongst the proverbial shadows while at the same time quite publicly releasing mind-bending and life-altering music. Despite there being no seemingly known set of faces to attach it to, “Open” is a gorgeous and delicate track that will ease most of your worries tonight.
[The Open EP is out now on Innovative Leisure]

Song To Get You Through The Goddamn Day #104:
Phosphorescent: “Wolves”
An impromptu practice session this evening led to a scattered rendition of this old favorite from 2007’s Pride and I just had to post it on here as it will be the only thing that I hear in my head for at least the next two and a half weeks. Get familiar with it if you aren’t already. It’s a stunner.
[Pride is available from Dead Oceans]

Song To Get You Through The Goddamn Day #103:
Jonquil: “It’s My Part (Co La Remix)
It’s pissing rain here in Portland today, the folks upstairs sound like they are building at least two pyramids making it impossible to concentrate on work and I’m still fighting off the last little bits of a cold that have left me with the kind of cough that makes people shake their heads you at and mutter, “Oh, he definitely shouldn’t be smoking.” (FYI: I don’t smoke).
Nevertheless, a powerful combination of Oxfordian beauty in the form of Jonquil and Baltimore grime in the form of Co La have combined their ultra mighty forces and helped stave off an even more dastardly further plunge into the depths of this already somewhat miserable Friday. Add to that a dash of Young Adult finally playing on a screen here in town and a planned trip for this evening to eat truly horrible/wonderful culinary treats and I can officially confirm that today will turn out just fine.
This has been far too much information with your host, Company Pants. You may now return to your regularly scheduled photos of cats with things that aren’t normally on their heads (!!!), Ryan Gosling memes and half-nekkid photos of hipster girls in knee-high socks.

Song To Get You Through The Goddamn Day #101:
XXYYXX: “Tied 2 U”
Sure, it’s a whole day late at this point, but here’s the song you should of been playing on repeat after you went out last night. (Or before you went out if you’re a true Dan Savage acolyte.)
“Everything’s a memory with strings that tie to you.”
[“Tied 2 U” was recorded exclusively for Earmilk]

Song To Get You Through The Goddamn Day #100:
Horse Feathers: “Fit Against The Country”
Portland’s Horse Feathers dropped a Valentine’s Day surprise on everyone this morning with a track from their forthcoming album, Cynic’s New Year. As expected, it’s lush, gorgeous and rife with melancholic bliss. Basically, it’s everything else we’ve come to expect from this mighty quartet with just a touch more for perfect flavoring.
[Cynic’s New Year drops April 17, 2012 on Kill Rock Stars]
